How to Pack and Store Your Belongings

When it comes to storing your belongings, staying organized can be challenging. But don’t worry! Here are a few helpful tips you can use to achieve maximum efficiency and make the most of your space.

First, plan ahead and visualize where you’re going to put everything. If needed, get some shelves in the appropriate dimensions. Using storage bins can keep everything tidy and in place, so estimate your needs before moving in. Ask yourself if you have fragile items that need special packaging.

Plan ahead if you’re going to disassemble large furniture items to save space. Also, label each box in at least two places: the top and one of the sides. Consider labeling both the long side of the box and the short side as well, since you don’t know which side will end up facing out.

Next, group similar items together inside the unit. You could start by putting the biggest category in one place, such as sports equipment or holiday decorations, and put other categories of items in smaller groups. Storing this way will reduce the risk of losing some items and waste far less of your precious time when you want to find something. Because you planned ahead and used the right shelving and containers, you’ve enabled yourself to use all the space but know where everything is when you need it.

Utilize your space well and remember that you may need to access something in the back of your unit. If possible, leave a little space in between categories or have a plan for reaching even the deepest part of the unit.

Remember, it’s always a good idea to put a tarp over your belongings. Storage units get dusty over time. At Mike’s Mini Storage, we have insulation to protect your units from condensation but still recommend plastic tarps to protect your items.

Also, don’t forget that when you’re working hard, you can get dehydrated. Bring some water with you or stop by the office for a free bottle.
